Class of 2006,
We represent the 3rd edition of the International Organizations Masters of Business Administration at the University of Geneva. This blog will attempt to recount the experiences of the programme that I will share with 20 other students.
The IOMBA programme trains leaders and managers for the world of international and non-governmental organizations. This years intakes consists of Americans, a Canadian (myself), Italians, a French, a Columbian, a Dutch, and others from all over the world. We are people who are especially interested in the world of development and international organizations and in gaining skills that will lead to better management in the internaitonal system. We have a tough road ahead of us, being a 13 month program with 24 modules to cover in management, finance and economics and social affairs, and an even longer road considering what a competitive field we are getting into, but with the support of the programme directors, a strong group of capable candidates and a research base that is wide and innovative, we hope to be able to succeed in our goals.
Week number one has introduced us to the programme. We have become fast freinds with Mr. Iddo Droor, coordinator of the programme and all around confident where we can benefit off his incredible enthusiasm for the programme. We have also been introdcued to Mr. Pierre Alain and Mr. Bernard Mourard, Co-Directors of the programme, as well as Mr. Brian Deschamps, head of career services and Ms. Britta Lucas, Chief Administrator.
The programme has so far gone above and beyond my expectations and though I came into it with a healthy dose of skeptism, knowing that it is a new and yet to be proven progamme, I am very impressed. Logistics for Students have been well explained and clear, with no problems as of yet. All students in the programme are hightly competenet and will benefit eachother - these competencies include one coordinator of a international widwivery programme at WHO, a consultant who has worked on Iraqi reconstruction in Iraq for 2 years, an American who has lived and worked with UNOPS in Tajikistan for a number of years and a consultant with the SDC in Niger for the past 12 years. It will be very interesting for me to work with these people and learn from their life experiences.
MORE TO COME..........
